JOB SUMMARY:
- Greet, direct, seat, and take food and beverage orders. Serve guests in accordance with company standards.
- Adhere to all beverage pour and recipe standards.
- Communicate inventory needs to appropriate manager.
- Be knowledgeable of all food, wine, beer, alcohol, and specialty cocktails offered.
- Conscious wine knowledge with ability to make pairing suggestions.
- Use the suggestive selling methods. Must continuously strive for revenue growth.
- Understand and communicate daily specials and specialty menus to guests.
- Understand and practice safe serving practices as they relate to alcohol service, such as recognizing intoxication and refusing service to a guest. Consult with Manager when support is needed.
- Be perceptive, proactive, and engaging. Anticipate your guest’s needs. Personalize the guest experience when possible; remember your guest and their requests
- Complete pre-shift preparation such as preparing and stocking garnishes, pre-mix, and ice. Create syrups and in-house infusions.
- Complete side work and closing tasks as required such as cleaning, sanitation of ice bins, and restocking for next shift.
- Operate efficiently and calmly throughout peak service times and high stress situations. Seek assistance from leadership when needed to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Properly open and close beer taps.
- Polish glassware, record any breakage.
- Maintain bathroom spaces during shift.
- Remove trash. Restock service stations and service bar areas.
- Make coffee, tea, and espressos.
- Prepare and present final bill to guest for payment. Obtain settlement and process using the POS system with adjusted tip if noted.
- Check out with manager once shift is complete.
- Practice cleanliness and safety in all dining areas, liquor and wine storage areas.
- Professionally handle guest complaints, solve problems, apologize/emphasize during guest complaints, follow up. Communicate any elevated complaints that could not be resolved to Food & Beverage management.
- Assist team members as needed to promote a positive teamwork environment.
- Practice conscious knowledge of food allergies and safety. Communicate allergy concerns to guests.
- Escalate associate concerns to Restaurant Manager.
- Demonstrate a team-focused attitude and encourage collaboration.
- Understand and use safe work practices for all safety precautions including Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Violence in the Workplace, Accident Reporting, OSHA Compliance, and Bloodborne Pathogen Procedures.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
- Comply with all policies as outlined in the Handbook, Property Supplement, or otherwise issued including time and attendance expectations, uniform and dress code standards, anti-harassment policy, and substances in the workplace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Ability to remain standing for up to 8 hours
- Ability to lift items overhead. Ability to bend and reach frequently and repetitively during a shift.
- Ability to move quickly based on guest needs
- Ability to regularly move and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use repetitive manual dexterity, such as typing, polishing, using hand tools, and fixing small items
- Ability to bend, stretch, and reach frequently, including above head, and repetitively during a shift

- Ability to visibly survey property areas clearly
- Ability to view a digital computer/tablet screen
- Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively, often in a public/group setting

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 1+ year professional bartending experience at a full service, high-paced bar.
- High School diploma/GED
- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong beverage knowledge with understanding of cocktail recipes and basic wine and beer familiarity.
- Able to complete a satisfactory background check
- Available and willing to work flexible hours based on business needs including weekdays and weekends.
- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Expresses sincere enthusiasm for the role and passion for food and beverage
- Must know how to prioritize, delegate, and respond in a timely fashion. Able to work under pressure, multi-task, and stay focused while maintaining hospitality.

Our Romantic Inn in Vermont's Green Mountains
As one of the most romantic and historic inns in the Green Mountains of southern Vermont, the Kedron Valley Inn has a long and varied past. History ebbs and flows through every post and beam, and every room has a story to tell. Dark wood furniture and antique decor remain the staples of the Inn today, and the foundation and framework of one of Vermont's oldest inns hasn't changed in more than 185 years.
In 1822, a store for gristmill workers and mill owners in South Woodstock Village was built by Richard Ransom, Jr. (this is the oldest building in the present Inn complex, now known as the Tavern Building.) The local newspaper reported that the building was dedicated with a gathering of singers from the region "who converged for the occasion to celebrate the completion of this structure." The third store in the Village, it became a social center of the community, providing services from banking to barbering, and the trading and bartering of goods, as well as home of the first post office in South Woodstock.
In 1828, John Quincy Adam's son, John, was married at the White House, Andrew Jackson was elected the seventh President of the United States and the Main House was constructed as a dwelling for the Ransom family. Originally called the Ransom House, it was also used as an Inn and tavern.
The handsome Federal Style building reflected the architecture of the era as settlers' cabins and small frame houses were being replaced with substantial brick homes. The community had numerous mills along the banks of the Kedron Stream and it was an active, thriving, self-sufficient agricultural community of enterprising, enlightened and educated citizens.
In 1848, the famous National Hall was built connecting the Main Building to the Tavern Building. This was a large auditorium where dances, concerts, parties, debates, political meetings, public exercises and many other activities were held.
Unfortunately, this structure was eventually lost in the early 1900's. Later in the 19th century, both rumor and historical documents indicate that the Inn was a stop on the eastern Underground Railroad for fugitive slaves.
Through the early 1900s, the Inn was known at The Colonial Inn and spacious porches with columns and pilasters, plus a continuous dormer on the third floor, were added to the Main Building. Then, in the middle of the 20th century, the property was renamed the Kedron Valley Inn and the name has stayed to this day. From 1960-1985 the Inn was owned by Paul Kendall, an eighth generation South Woodstock resident. The Log Lodge was added, a swimming and fishing pond was created and the original Tavern Building, which had housed the bar and dining facilities, was converted entirely into guest rooms.
The Inn is currently owned and operated by a Vermont based hotel company specialized in combining the warmth of hyper local elegance with the sophistication of world class luxury. The appeal of "relaxing in the country" is as strong as ever, and throughout the history of the Kedron Valley Inn its owners and proprietors have considered themselves caretakers of history -- maintaining the integrity of the buildings and surrounding grounds for more almost two centuries.
