Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional, personalized table service in a fine dining environment
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Japanese cuisine, including sushi, sashimi, omakase service, and seasonal ingredients
- Guide guests through the menu, offering informed recommendations on food, sake, wine, and beverage pairings
- Maintain a strong understanding of Japanese dining etiquette and service standards
- Execute steps of service with precision, including proper timing, pacing, and presentation
- Collaborate with chefs and kitchen staff to ensure accurate order execution and guest satisfaction
- Anticipate guest needs and promptly address requests or concerns
- Present and describe dishes with clarity, highlighting preparation methods and cultural significance where appropriate
- Maintain a clean, organized, and elegant dining environment
- Process orders and payments accurately using POS systems
- Uphold all health, safety, and sanitation standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of fine dining serving experience (Japanese or Asian cuisine preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Japanese culinary traditions, sushi terminology, and ingredients
- Familiarity with sake, wine, and beverage pairings; sake certification is a plus
- Exceptional communication and guest engagement skills
- High attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Food Handler and Alcohol Service Certification (as required by local regulations)
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Experience with omakase-style service
- Knowledge of Japanese language basics (greetings, menu terms) is a plus
- Passion for hospitality and cultural authenticity
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to carry trays and lift up to 25 lbs
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as bending, reaching, and carrying
