Description
The Chief Engineer oversees all aspects of engineering, maintenance, and facility operations within Hawks Cay Resort. This role ensures the property’s physical assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and luxury presentation. The Chief Engineer leads the engineering team to deliver efficient operations, preventative maintenance, and rapid response to guest and operational needs, ensuring an exceptional guest experience in a luxury hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Engineering Department, including scheduling, training, and performance management of staff.
- Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, recreational facilities, and all resort equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and building regulations, including OSHA, fire codes, and local/state requirements.
- Manage budgets for engineering operations, including capital projects, repairs, utilities, and energy management.
- Coordinate with other departments to support resort operations, special events, and guest service needs.
- Maintain all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and pool systems to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Oversee sustainability and energy-saving initiatives aligned with resort standards.
- Respond to emergency situations such as power outages, equipment failures, and severe weather events with effective solutions.
- Conduct regular property inspections to identify and resolve maintenance needs.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the engineering team to ensure consistency and accountability.
- Act as liaison with outside contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies for major repairs and capital improvements.
- Ensure prompt guest service recovery when engineering-related issues impact guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred; technical certifications (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing) strongly desired.
- Minimum 5–7 years of engineering/facilities management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role in a luxury resort, hotel, or hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and mentor diverse staff.
- Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and project management.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across departments and with guests.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform hands-on maintenance tasks when necessary.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and work in various conditions (indoor, outdoor, confined spaces).
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call as required.
